Hole type

EIE offers three types of nipple hole drilling. The most basic and by far the most widely used is the "standard" option. An "internal nipple hole" can be useful for road aero wheels, while the "without rim bead hole" option is a specialty: the inner side of the rim has no holes for inserting the nipples.

Standard

Classic hole drilling, with a larger 8 mm hole drilled on the outer circumference of the rim for inserting the nipple and a 4.5 mm hole on the inner circumference to support a standard nipple. The vast majority of our rims are built with these standard holes. The wheels can then be trued from both the inside and the outside.

Without rim bead hole (Tubeless ready)

In this version, only 4.5 mm holes are drilled on the inner circumference to support a standard nipple. There are no holes on the outer circumference. This option is ideal because no tubeless tape is needed. The disadvantage becomes apparent when building or replacing a nipple: the nipples must be inserted into the rim through the valve hole, which is relatively complicated.

Internal nipple hole

Internal nipples are used mainly on road bikes and when aerodynamics and a clean appearance are the top priorities. A larger 8 mm hole is drilled on the outer circumference for inserting the nipple, while a small 2.5 mm hole on the inner circumference allows only the spoke to pass through to the inside of the rim. Special internal nipples with a square head are used in this case, and the wheel can only be trued from the inside of the rim.
