Classic
A classic spoke attachment system, also known as a J-bend, in which each spoke
has a hook and head at the end. This system is suitable for everyday riding. Its
advantage is the easy availability of replacement spokes almost anywhere, while
the disadvantage is more complicated wheel building and spoke replacement.
Classic hubs are generally heavier, and the wheel build is slightly more
flexible and durable.
Straightpull
A newer system in which the spokes attach to the hub without a bend, in a
straight line. The main advantages are lower weight and greater overall wheel
stiffness. The disadvantage is that replacement spokes may be slightly harder to
find at smaller workshops. In general, racers and customers looking for low
weight and high stiffness almost always choose Straightpull hubs.
